Netizens witnessed an act of polygamy in Solapur district of Maharashtra. Twin sisters who are IT engineers voluntarily got married to man in Malshiras taluka of Solapur district of Maharashtra this Friday.
Rinky and Pinky married Atul this Friday. Atul is a businessman by profession It must be noted that none of the bride’s or groom’s family opposed this marriage. As the video of this marriage went viral on social media netizens questioned the validity of this bond as per the Hindu Marriage Act.
Marathi online daily Maharashtra Times had stated "The girls were living with their mother after their father passed away a few days ago. Once when the two sisters and their mother fell ill, they used to go to the hospital in Atul's car. During this time, Atul came close to the two young women".
This twin bride after spending the childhood together formed a bond strong enough to make their separation unbearable after marriage. So they decided to marry to the same man as a result of which they could stay together. Their family supported their desire and found Atul who agreed to marry both of them.
Solapur Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande mentioned that a case of non-cognizable offences under IPC section 494 was booked against Atul for double wedding. Following the wedding local police initiated investigating the matter. However family members denied of imposing any forceful decision.
Under Sec 494 of the IPC, "Whoever, having a husband or wife living, marries in any case in which such marriage is void because of its taking place during the life of such husband or wife, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine."
