District police Chief Sanjeev Suman informed that the girls were persuaded and taken to a sugarcane field and then they were sexually assaulted by their friends Suhail and Junaid. He added "The girls were raped in the fields. When they insisted that the men marry them, the men strangled them with their dupattas. Then they called Karimuddin and Arif for help with covering up the crime. They hung the bodies from the tree to make it look like suicide".
The family of the victim claimed that they were kidnapped by three men on bikes. However according to police the girls willing went with them. Villagers along with the family of the teenagers began protesting and demanding justice. They even tried to block the police when they tried to take the bodies for a post-mortem accused the police as insensitive. However the police was sensitive and handled the case peacefully.
The opposition leaders considered it as failure of Yogi Adityanath government in maintaining law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav from Samajwadi Party's found the incident as a repeat of the Hathras case from 2020 in which a Dalit girl was raped and murdered.
