There are many ways to earn money. But there are some people who do adulteration in order to earn more money. Many times such people play with the health of the people for their benefit and start to adulterate the food items and make them stand in the grip of beamery. A similar factory was exposed in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. The most surprising thing is that donkey scat, chaff, inedible colors and acids were used in fake spices. Not only this, they were being packaged in wrappers of different companies and supplied in the market.

The owner of the unit, Anoop Varshney, who is also an officer of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, has been arrested. Joint Magistrate Prem Prakash Meena said, "We have seized more than 300 kg of fake spices in the name of some other brands." He said that during the raid, a number of harmful ingredients used to prepare fake spices were found, including donkey droppings, grass (bhusa), inedible colors and acid-filled drums.

The adulterated spices recovered included coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric and spice mix (garam masala). He said that more than 27 samples have been sent for testing and an FIR will be lodged under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 after the lab report comes out. But taking strict steps in this case, Varshney has been remanded to judicial custody under Section 151 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offenses) of the CrPC.

Meena told reporters that Varshney was unable to provide a license to operate the spice factory at the place from where all this was being run. He also could not produce licenses for the brands that were being packaged. It is also being investigated whether the material prepared in the unit for making spices was given to other units of the city. According to Food Department officials, adulterants can prove to be hazardous to health, especially if used over a long period of time.

This is how you get adulteration of spices

·        To identify adulteration of red chili, water can be seen by adding it. If chili powder is seen floating in water, then it is understood that it is pure. If it sinks then the spice is adulterated.

·        To check adulteration of turmeric powder, try adding few drops of hydrochloric acid as well as water drops. If turmeric turns pink or purple, then turmeric is adulterated.

·        In the case of cinnamon, you can give it by rubbing it on the hand. If its color is seen then it is real.
