Rajpath will be renamed as 'Kartavya Path
Rajpath which links Centre Vista lawns and Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate would be called as 'Kartavya Path' as reported by the official sources on Monday.

The government
has decided to replace the name of the most important street of India. Rajpath which
links Centre Vista
lawns and Rashtrapati Bhavan to India
Gate would be called as 'Kartavya Path' as reported by the official sources on
Monday.
The
New Delhi Municipal
Council (NDMC) has called a special meeting on September 7 to place the
proposal that suggests "The entire road and area from the Netaji statue at
India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan will be
known as Kartavyapath,"
On September 8 evening,
the path would be inaugurated by our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
after the completion of renovation by government's determined Central Vista
redevelopment project.
Kingsway was the name of
Rajpath during British Rule. The prime minister stated about the elimination of
symbols that echoes the colonial outlook in his Independence Day speech of this
year.
The prime minister desires
to make the citizen realise about their responsibilities in the following 25
years that leads to 100 years of Independence. As per the sources, "this
is also a message to the ruling class that the era of rulers and subjects is
over".
In the recent years many
roads were renamed to implement this ideology like Race Course road was renamed
as Lok Kalyan Marg, Aurangzeb Road was renamed A P J Abdul Kalam Road in 2015.
Dalhousie Road was renamed Dara Shikoh Road in 2017. Several approaches were
made to rename Akbar road but it remains undone yet.
The restored Central Vista
Avenue along the Rajpath will be adorned by state-wise food stalls, red granite
walkways with greenery all around, vending zones, parking lots and full time
security. But food will not be allowed on the lawns from India Gate to Man
Singh Road.
As per the plan of The
Central Public Works Department (CPWD), an executing agency of the project,
there would be five vending zones each comprising 40 vendors
Visitors could not access
the stretch from the India Gate to Man Singh Road on the day of the
inauguration. Public would be allowed to the entire stretch only after
September 9.
