On Sunday officials stated that the remains of 68 people have been retrieved but after recounting the numbers were found to be 66 as said by Tek Bahadur K.C., a senior administrative officer in Kaski district.
Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority stated that the plane was flying with 68 passengers on board that included 15 foreigners, the foreigners included 5 Indians, 4 Russians, 2 South Koreans and one each from Australia, Ireland, France and Argentina. The 4 Indians were from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
On Monday rescuers retrived both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder but officials claim that the hope of finding any survivors are nil.
Few witnesses described the incident when the plane crashed like one witness named Bishnu Tiwari described that rescue operation was difficult due to thick smoke and raging fire. The flames were so hot that they couldn’t help the man crying for help. Another witness stated that the plane was spinning violently in the air before reaching the airport for landing and it crashed nose-first in its left side and crashed in the gorge.
Yeti airlines has cancelled flights on Monday to mourn the passengers who lost their lives. Pushpa Kanwal has set up a panel to investigate the incident.
