Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav Samajwadi Party supremo and took his last breath around 8:30 am (October 10, 2022) Monday. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeted. "My respected father and everyone's 'Neta ji' is no more - Shri Akhilesh Yadav,"

Mr. Yadav was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, as he was suffering from ill health. His treatment began on August 22. Then he was shifted to the ICU on October 2. The 82 year old leader reportedly suffered breathing issues along with urinary infection. Mulayam Singh Yadav was popular as “Netaji” among his admirers.

Yadav’s funeral would be held in his native village of Saifai located in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Party leaders mentioned that “The body of netaji is being taken to Saifai. On Oct 11, he will be cremated at around 3 pm”. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would attend the last rites. 

Death of the SP Supremo is followed by numerous tributes over social media from famous politicians and other personalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to tribute the late leader “Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest”.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath considered the former refence minister’s death as “irreparable loss” and declared three days of state mourning in Uttar Prasesh. The Congress’s tweet reads "The death of Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was also India's former defence minister, is a huge loss to Indian politics. May god grant peace to his soul, and give strength to his family members".

Uttar Pradesh assembly speaker Satish Mahana, expressed his grief and paid condolences, "It's a very sad moment. He was the land of the son. I had recently visited Medanta and met Akhilesh ji and came back with the impression that he was improving. It is a very sad moment. In politics, opposition is as important as ruling party. Mulayam Singh ji embodied Great Spirit and will be hugely missed".

Also Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra observed a 5 minutes Shoka Sabha at 1 pm Monday at a halt near Hiriyur, Chitradurga district in Karnataka.
