On Saturday, seven people, including an army colonel, his wife and their son, were killed in an ambush with terrorists in Manipur. The attack took place around 10 am in Behiang in Churachandpur district of the state. The other four soldiers were from Assam Rifles. A source in an intelligence agency said that three to four other personnel were also injured.
An official statement of Manipur Encounter by HQ, DG Assam Rifles said, "A convoy of Assam Rifles was ambushed by insurgents in Thinghat, Manipur on November 13, 2021 at 11:00 hrs. Five soldiers, including Col Viplav Tripathi Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty."
The statement added, "Colonel Biplab Tripathi, Commanding Officer of Khuga Battalion, Assam Rifles, along with QRT and family was ambushed by an IED while going to Sahkan village, Singhat subdivision, Commanding Officer, Commanding Officer and four QRT personnel died on the spot. The family of the commanding officer (wife and six-year-old son) also lost his life. The other injured personnel were admitted to the Behianga health care centre."
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted, "Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed few personnel including the CO & his family at CCpur today. The State forces & Para military are already on their job to track down the militants. The perpetrators will be brought to justice."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack, he said, "The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur is extremely painful & condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members. My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon."
