London-based global citizenship and residency advisory firm named Henley & Partners has announced the Henley Passport Index for the year 2023. which was made based on data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). According to it Japan has again topped the list, the Passport Index report was released on January 10th. Due to Japan’s passport being so powerful Japanese people can travel to 193 countries visa-free or visa-on-arrival access destinations around the world.

The second spot is shared by Singapore and South Korea and this gives them visa-free access to 192 countries, France, Ireland, Portugal and the United Kingdom are tied at the 6th spot with them having access to 187 countries visa-free. Countries like the United States, Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Czech Republic and Switzerland are all tied at the 7th spot with a visa-free score of 186 and countries like Australia, Canada, Greece and Malta are at 8th place with a visa-free score of 185, Poland and Hungary with a visa-free score of 184 and Slovakia and Lithuania at 10th spot with 183 score.

The Index’s scoring system helps users to get reliable overview of their passport’s power and every passport is scored based on the total number of destinations that a user can access visa-free. Japanese passport gives its users visa-free access to 85% of the world and there are only 6% of passports worldwide that give its users visa-free access to more than 70% of the global economy and only 17% of countries give their passport users visa-free access to more than four-fifths of the world’s 227 destinations.
