Heatwave Alert: IMD Warns Northern States to Stay Protected, Rainfall Expected Soon

The IMD has predicted maximum temperature to reach 43 degrees Celsius today. The weekend may provide relief with rainfall.

Heatwave Alert: IMD Warns Northern States to Stay Protected, Rainfall Expected Soon

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the maximum temperature in Delhi to reach 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and cross 45 degrees Celsius on Friday. A yellow alert has been issued for the northern states of India as a heatwave is expected to prevail again. 

As per the Met department, the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over the Jammu division, parts of Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Wednesday. Similar heatwave conditions are expected to prevail on Thursday in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.

The IMD's prediction 

The IMD has warned for heatwave conditions to occur in Uttar Pradesh on May 19, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will witness such conditions on May 20 and May 21. The areas of Punjab and Haryana are expected to stifle with heatwave conditions on May 19 and May 20, and in Rajasthan, such conditions will occur from May 18 to May 21.

Monsoon Conditions in South India 

As per the statement given by the weather forecast department on Wednesday, May 17, the southwest monsoon has arrived over the parts of the South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Nicobar Islands, and the Andaman sea. Due to this, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to witness widespread rainfall during the next 5 days. 

Weekend to provide relief to Delhiites 

Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, Delhi is likely to witness thunderstorms with gusty winds on Saturday and accompanied by drizzling on Sunday. The temperature is expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.
