Delhi-NCR Receives Heavy Rainfall, Temperature Drops to 22 Degrees Celsius

The northern states of India have got relief from prevailing heatwave conditions as people woke up to heavy rainfall in Delhi.

On Monday, Delhi NCR witnessed heavy rainfall early in the morning. With thunderstorms and heavy showers, the netizens got relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions. The rainfall has brought down the temperature by 11 notches. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the conditions of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours in various northern states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Kashmir. As per the weather forecast, the maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to hover around 37 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius for the next two days. 

After receiving heavy rainfall on Monday morning, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to remain around 37 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will remain around 27 degrees Celsius.

The first thunderstorm of the season 

As per the IMD, Delhi has witnessed its first "moderate" intensity thunderstorm of the season since March 1 with winds blowing at the rate of 70 kmph. A senior meteorologist at IMD, R. Jenamani said, "Summer season is considered since March 1. Today, wind gusts maximum reported were up to 70 kmph as per IGI Airport at 7 am. The normal occurrence days for thunderstorms at Delhi are around 12 to 14 days from March to May, while this season has been only 4 to 5 so far and these were dry thunder mostly."

Weather forecast by the IMD 

As per the weather forecast by IMD, there would be thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain and gusty winds speeding between 50-80 kmph in the adjoining areas of the national capital including Loni Dehat, Greater Noida, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Noida, Kurukshetra, Sonipat, Gohana, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Bagpat, Meerut, Baraut, Hapur, Bhiwari etc.
