Delhi NCR: Temperature Crosses 49 Degrees Celsius, IMD Predicts Thunderstorm

After witnessing the boiling temperatures on Sunday, Delhi is likely to get some relief today.

On Monday, the national capital is likely to witness thunderstorm after getting stifled at more than 49 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The sky is likely to remain cloudy with a possibility of thunderstorm or dust storm, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). 

As per the weather forecast by the Met department, due to a cyclonic turbulence over Punjab and Haryana a pre-monsoon activity will be induced that will offer relief to the people from stifling temperatures on Monday and Tuesday.

Weather Forecast by the IMD 

On Monday morning, the IMD recorded minimum temperature in the national capital at 30.8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to reach 41 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, on Sunday the national capital sweltered under heatwave conditions with maximum temperature crossing 49 degrees Celsius. Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi reported the maximum temperatures reaching 49.2 degrees Celsius, Najafgarh in the southwest Delhi reported 49.1 degrees Celsius.

At Sports Complex the maximum temperature reached 48.4 degrees Celsius, at Jafarpur it was recorded as 47.5 degrees Celsius. Pitampura's maximum temperature settled at 47.3 degrees Celsius, and at Delhi Ridge it reached 47.2 degrees Celsius.

Relief from Heatwave soon 

As reported by news agency ANI, on Sunday the IMD Senior Scientist Naresh Kumar said, "We have issued Red Alert for Rajasthan for an intense spell of the heatwave, and a Yellow alert for tomorrow. Similarly, we have issued an Orange alert for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh and Delhi." 

Further, he said, "We can expect a significant decrease in the temperatures after 24 hours, which will eventually decrease the condition of 'severe' heatwave in northwest India."
