The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a heatwave in the national capital and the adjoining areas from Friday. In order to provide some relaxation, the Ministry of Education has issued fresh guidelines for the schools.
Fresh Guidelines issued by the Education Ministry
As per the official statement, the Ministry said that schools may opt to start the school timings early and get the classes over by the afternoon. Schools can operate from 7:00 AM onwards and school hours on a daily basis could be reduced. Schools should also adjust the timings of the outdoor activities in the early morning which expose students to direct sunlight.

The guidelines said, "School assembly should be conducted in covered areas or classrooms with reduced timings. Similar care may be taken during dispersal after school is over."
The Press Release
Sharing the information about the press release on Twitter, the Ministry of Education wrote, "Guidelines regarding precautions to be observed by schools to combat the ill effects of the heatwave including modification in school timings and daily routine, transportation, hydration, meals, etc."
Requested by Parents
The move has been taken by the Central government after the parents of children studying in schools in Delhi have requested the government last week to either announce summer holidays or revise the school's operational hours amid stifling temperatures.
As per the statement of the government, children are advised to not bring their lunch boxes as the food may get stale due to the heat. However, under PM POSHAN hot cooked and fresh meals will be provided to students. Schools will also be equipped with Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) packets and important medical kits.
