With the havoc created by Tauktae cyclone recently, Eastern coastal region of India is threatened with cyclone Yaas. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal to be converted into cyclonic storm 'Yaas Cyclone' and is expected to hit the West Bengal and Odisha coast on 26 May. During that period, winds of 260 kmph to 300 kmph were started in Odisha due to which 10,000 people lost their lives.
National Disaster Response Force i.e. NDRF, Army and Coast Guard in service in both the states in view of the threat of cyclone Yaas. Of the 85 NDRF teams, 32 have been deployed in Bengal and 28 in Odisha. Some teams have been deployed in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Bengal government has set up a control room in the state secretariat 'Nabanna', which will be operated by Mamta Banerjee herself on Tuesday and Wednesday.
