According to the Meteorological Department, 'severe cyclonic storm' is expected to make landfall with winds at 130-140 kmph by this afternoon. Cyclone Yaas will hit the coast today in few hours. It will be transformed into ‘severe cyclonic storm’ by evening. Due to this, heavy rains are taking place in many districts of West Bengal and Odisha. A 'Red Coded' warning has been issued for both the states.
High waves are rising in the sea with strong winds in Digha of East Midnapore. The state government and central government teams are constantly monitoring this.

Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of at least 38 long-distance passenger trains headed to both Kolkata and southern states. These services will remain cancelled till Saturday, a Northeast Frontier Railways statement quoted by news agency ANI said.
