Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary died during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Phillaur, Punjab at the age of 76.

The Congress MP from Jalandhar collapsed during the foot march in Punjab’s Phillaur while he was walking alongside Rahul Gandhi. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Phagwara but was declared dead on arrival.

Rahul Gandhi left the march and immediately reached the hospital where the Congress MP had been taken, he also met with Mr Chaudhary’s family at his home in Jalandhar’s Dhaliwal. Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s cremation will be done and according to Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring the Bharat Jodo Yatra has been suspended for now. He also mentioned how excited the MP was about the march as it was passing through his area. Rahul Gandhi later had shared a collage of the yatra in which Mr Chaudhary walking with him and other members of the party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences over MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s death, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his sadness over the passing away of Mr Chaudhary. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and many others also offered their condolences.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary had won the Lok Sabha elections twice once in 2014 and in 2019 his son Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary is a Congress MLA from Phillaur assembly constituency in Punjab.
