Today is the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the pride of the country. He was born on 19 February 1630 in Shivneri Durg, Maharashtra. His father Shahji Bhosale was the general and his mother Jijabai was a religious woman. It was from his mother that Shivaji got education of religion and spirituality. Not only this, Veer Shivaji was against feudal practice since childhood and strongly opposed the brutal policies of the people towards the people by the Mughal rulers and when the opportunity came, they beat the Mughals.
Maratha Empire stood on its own
Shivaji formed his own separate army under the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, he founded the Maratha Empire in Western India in 1674. Along with this, Shivaji also formed a navy contingent in his army which supported him a lot during the war. Not only this, Shivaji Maharaj used to insist on using guerrilla method during the war.
The huge army of Mughals took iron- Shivaji's rising power scared Adil Shah, the ruler of Bijapur, and thought of taking Shivaji hostage, but when he did not succeed in taking Shivaji Maharaj hostage, he imprisoned his father Shahaji. To save his father, Shivaji attacked Bijapur and captured the fort and Javalli Fort with the help of his father. After this incident, Aurangzeb called Shivaji for the treaty of Purandar.
Aurangzeb feared that Shivaji might attack him so he summoned Shivaji to Agra by some excuse and imprisoned him under the supervision of 5000 soldiers at Agra Fort but Shivaji managed to escape from there. After this, they attacked and defeated the Mughals. After this, he came to be called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
It is said about the death of Veer Shivaji that he died due to prolonged illness. In 1680, Shivaji breathed his last in his capital hill fort. After his death, his son Sambhaji took over the throne.
