It is for the 7th time that Nitish Kumar took oath as a CM, today. It was Governor Fagu Chauhan at the Raj Bhavan who made him swore the oath. Along with Nitish, 14 other ministers also took the oath. Out of these 14 ministers who swore an oath, 7 are from BJP, 5 are from JDU, and one each is from VIP and HAM. While Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda were also present at the oath-taking ceremony, Congress and RJD decided to boycott it. 

Along with Nitish Kumar, Governor Fagu Chauhan also made Deputy Chief Ministers Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi swore the oath. BJP Leader Tarkishore Prasad has been elected as the MLA from Katihar, while Renu Devi has been elected from the Betia assembly seat. JDU’s executive chairman Ashok Chaudhary also swore his oath as a minister. Other 4 members from JDU who also swore an oath were, Vijendra Yadav, Vijay Chaudhary, Sheela Mandal, and Mevalal Chaudhary. 

From HAM, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son Santosh Suman took an oath as a minister, from VIP it was Party Chief Mukesh Sahni. Mukesh Sahni is also known as the son of the streets. From BJP, Mangal Pandey and Amrendra Pratap Singh swore an oath. BJP leaders Jeevesh Mishra and Rampreet Paswan took the oath in the Maithili language. BJP’s Ram Surat Rai also swore an oath. Out of the 7 ministers from BJP, 2 have taken oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. 

PM Modi congratulates and gives promise of complete co-operation

Soon after the oath-taking ceremony, PM Modi congratulated Nitish Kumar assuring all possible help from the Center for the development of Bihar. PM Modi wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to Nitish Kumarji on taking oath as CM of Bihar. I also congratulate all those who took oath as ministers in Bihar government. NDA family will work together for the progress of Bihar. I assure all possible help from the Center for the welfare of Bihar.”

Before this Nitish Kumar has sworn as the CM, 6 times

While this is the 7th time Nitish Kumar has been elected as the CM, his first term as the CM was in 2000. However, because he couldn’t deliver he had to resign in a week. But then in 2005, Nitish Kumar ended Lalu Prasad Yadav’s monopoly of 5 years and became the CM of the state winning the assembly elections. His third tenure was from 2010 to 2014, after which Jeetan Ram Manjhi came into power. In 2015, Nitish Kumar became the CM of Bihar for the fourth time. Nitish Kumar’s 5th term as the CM ended in 2017. In 2017, he resigned as the CM of Bihar after breaking his alliance with RJD and Congress, however, 24 hours after resigning from the post he swore as the 6th Chief Minister of Bihar with support from BJP and NDA.
