From Nepotism to #MeToo: Here are some lost issues Sushant Singh Rajput’s death reignited

While some reports stated that the late Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide after he felt unhappy about not receiving his dues from the industry, his death seems to have shook the roots and stem of the film industry. Yes, not only has a dark side of Bollywood been unearthed, but the M.S.Dhoni actor’s death has even led to some otherwise forgotten issues in Bollywood resurface.

Sushant who left for heavenly abode on June 14 this year, was said to have committed suicide, but with latest investigations, a homicide angle is coming up and every one from his house staff to his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty has come under the scanner. But other than this, lots of other famous names from Bollywood too have come in the bad light. Along with that some other issues that have sparked off are…

Nepotism

Remember how a few years back actress Kangana Ranaut slammed filmmaker Karan Johar on his show Koffee With Karan for not giving her a chance in his films and being the snooty movie mafia who pushed her to the corner. Well, for some time back then groupism and nepotism in Bollwyood  had become a hot topic of discussion, but with time it was forgotten. However, after Sushant’s death this debate sparked off again, when Kangana Ranaut and the late actors fans went to blame some others from Bollywood for driving Sushant to a point where he had to end his life.

Cat Fights

Another blast from the past that SSR’s death brought to the present time were the cat fights we saw off-late. Since some years our B-town ladies have been painting a happy picture of co-existing in all peace and harmony. Without any bickering, back biting or any kind of rivalries, we have seen these beauties working in sync and even lauding one another’s craft.   But off-late we see one actress pouncing on another and then another one joining, yes, the entire Kangana Ranaut-Jaya Bachchan-Urmila Matondkar fight which had many actresses like Swara Bhasker jumping in and calling out Kangana gave us the 2020 version of cat-fights in Bollywood. And it was all linked to Sushant’s death case.

Udta Bollywood – The Drug Addiction

Another big can of worms that was opened up during investigations of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case was Bollywood’s drug nexus. Yes, Bollywood’s connection and addiction to drugs came into the limelight with lots of names from Bollywood coming under scrutiny. And while this drug consumption has been a usual norm of the industry, it was Kangana’s revelation and Rhea Chakroborty’s statement to the NCB that once again reignited this otherwise ignored or forgotten menace. In fact, this drug connection to the film industry even reached to the Lok Sabha meeting in the parliament.

#MeToo

The #MeToo movement ruled the internet for a large part of 2017-2018, and had many women come out and speak up against the monsters of Bollywood. In fact, it brought out names of all those from showbiz tried to sexually exploit these women, some prominent names were Alok Nath, Sajid Khan, Vikas Behl, etc. And while it put many careers also at stake, there were a few cases where allegations were wrong. In case you don’t know, late Sushant’s name was also dragged in the #MeToo controversy by his Dil Bechara actress Sanjana Sanghi, and while girlfriend revealed that these false allegations affected Sushant mentally. That’s when the #MeToo brigade got reactivated with some more names coming out. Very recently,  Anurag Kashyap also became a target of this faux pas where actress Payal Ghosh accused him with #MeToo charges, saying how he asked her for sexual favours. She even went on to name other ladies like Huma Qureshi, Mahie Gill and Richa Chadda being exploited by Kashyap. Soon many from the industry came to the director’s support stating how the allegations were false. Legal action has also been taken.

With these issues coming up again, let’s see what else comes up in this case. Stay tuned!
