EXCLUSIVE: Saumya Tandon on quitting Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai

After being on the show for 5 years, the actress has finally bid adieu to TV’s most popular sitcom

Actress Saumya Tandon who ruled the television circuit as the Gori mem Anita on the popular sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, has quit the show. Putting an end to all these rumours the actress has finally confirmed that she will no longer be a part of &TV’s sitcom. In an exclusive conversation with us, Saumya confirmed that she has said goodbye to the show that she has been a part of since 2015. “Yes, I am not continuing with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, the news is absolutely true. I haven’t renewed my contract further. Since a long time rumours were doing rounds, but I could not confirm since I was under the contract,” said Saumya.  

Saumya also dismissed all other rumours around her exit from the show and said, “All other rumours you heard as reasons were wrong, it’s got nothing to do with a pay cut or COVID, it’s just that I had made up my mind to not renew my contract further.”

While it is reported that the actress is looking to explore other mediums on the acting front, sharing the reason behind quitting the show Saumya says, “The real reason for quitting the show is that, it’s been 5 years, I wanted to move on in life. There is a place and time for everything in life and this was the time for Bhabiji in my life, now I am excited to explore newer challenges. There is some good content happening on other platforms, even cinema is experimenting and a lot of other exciting work is happening, I hope to pick up and choose something very carefully for the future.”

Well, it is true that both cinema and web-space have been growing, and while Saumya will be dearly missed on the show, and while fans deal with this end of an era, many would also be excited to see Saumya in another avatar.  For those who don’t know Saumya has featured in a Bollywood film earlier. Yes, the actress played Kareena Kapoor Khan’s sister in Jab We Met. Now with the web-space buzzing with content and opportunities, we wonder if Saumya will explore the OTT space too. 

Talking about her journey on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, Saumya adds, “I have had a very beautiful journey, I did a lot of things that I hadn’t done earlier. I have a great rapport with everybody on the sets and I am going to miss everyone. Especially a couple of friends like Asifji, my producers as well as my network. I am going to say bye to my Bhabiji family, but I hope it is for the good.”

Since 2015, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai has ruled the TRP charts. In its 5 year run, the show also faced a few controversies during Shilpa Shinde’s exit, however, that never affected its viewership. While Shilpa was replaced by actress Shubhangi Atre, many would be keen to know who will take Saumya’s place on the show. Till we get back with further updates on this front stay tuned!
