Not only the pandemic, but even some other reasons have led to some popular TV shows being axed…
The saas-bahu sagas and the soap opera culture has been an important fodder for Indian households. While the idea bahus, the perfect couples, the dotting husbands paved ways for many dreams to be set, television still continues to bring to us stories like these. While these full of drama sob stories make a special place in many of our hearts, there have been some others also which were a part of our daily lives, however, they met an unexpected end.
Yes, with the announcement of Ekta Kapoor’s epic love tale Kausautii Zindagi Kay 2 that starred Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandez going off air on October 3, many fans have been left disheartened. Well, the show has had a successful 2 year run, before issues from the cast started setting in. After Karan Singh Grover, actor Parth Samthaan who played Anurag Basu decided to quit the show stating that he wanted to focus more on making a career in Bollywood. However, rumour has it that the actor might be entering the Bigg Boss 14 house. Even Erica Fernandez who played Prerna Sharma refused to shoot from anywhere else than her home due to the pnadmeic which only added to more troubles for the team. While producer Ekta Kapoor tried convincing Parth in every possible manner, she wasn’t able to find a suitable replacement for him, which is why they decided to pull the plugs for the show.
This isn’t the first time a show has been axed due to some disagreement from the actor, earlier, actress Jannat Zubair Rehamani’s show Tu Aashiqui was also in the news after her parents objected to their 16-year-old daughter being asked to do intimate scenes by the makers. After several meetings, Jannar was replaced, but soon the show also died down and was eventually axed. Another such show which got embroiled in controversy big time was Tejaswi Praskash’s show Pehredaar Piya that featured a minor playing a husband to an elderly girl. While the show was said to be promoting child marriage, it had to be taken off-air by the makers after the backlash.
Some other shows also met an unexpected end thanks to the pandemic. One of them was Sony TV’s Patiala Babes that had its plugs pulled with an abrupt end. Another one was Alisha Panwar’s Meri Gudiya, even Jennifer Winget and Shivin Narang’s Beyhadh 2 also ended on an incomplete note due to some unprecedented situations the lockdown imposed. While we have had some shows which have ran on TV for years, somewhere down the line they lost the plot, however, other shows which were genuinely interesting couldn’t manage to survive due to other reasons. But we guess, that’s life in the entertainment business and while one show ends, another is born. With Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 going off air, fans will soon watch Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2 on the small screen.
