Alia Bhatt's much-awaited film Gangubai Kathiawadi is all set to release now. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali the movie will have a theatrical release on January 6, 2022. The announcement came after the Maharashtra government informed last week that theatres in the city will reopen from October. The makers of the film has shared on social media to reveal the release date.

Previously, the film was set to release on July 30, 2021, but due to the second wave of the pandemic its release delayed.
The movie Gangubai Kathiawadi features Alia in the lead role as Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved and respected madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s. The film's story has been adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi’s book, "Mafia Queens of Mumbai". It will also star Ajay Devgn in a cameo role.
