Nations' Unemployment Rate Increased by 0.23% in April

Inflation in the country is rising speedily with a continuous hike in daily use products including edible oil and fuel. Amidst such a situation, the rate of unemployment among youth has increased significantly by 0.23 percent in April 2022. With a slight decline in the rural unemployment rate, the rate of urban unemployment has gone higher. 

Rural and Urban Unemployment rate 

In the month of April, the nation's unemployment rate reached 7.83 percent from 7.60 percent in March 2022, as per the data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). The highest unemployment is recorded in Haryana at 34.5 percent and Rajasthan at 28.8 percent.

Data by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) 

As per the CMIE's data, the rate of unemployment in urban areas has increased to 9.22 percent in April 2022 which was 8.28 percent in March 2022. On the other hand, the unemployment rate in rural areas has declined to 7.18 percent in April 2022 from 7.29 percent in March 2022. 

The CMIE said that job offers are witnessing a sharp hit due to sluggish demand and the slow pace of economic recovery amid rising prices. 

As per fresh data from the National Statistical Office, over 5.18 crore beneficiaries are added by the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) from September 2012 to February 2022.

The Statement by the Government

In a statement, the government said, "The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the press note on Employment Outlook of the country covering the period September 2017 to February 2022, based on the administrative records available with selected government agencies to assess the progress in certain dimensions", quoted as saying by News 18.
