On Saturday, May 7, Indian oil companies announced to increase in the price of domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs. 50 in Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities. With the recent hike, the domestic cylinder of 14.2 kg will now burn a hole in the pockets of the common man by costing Rs. 999.50 with immediate effect in Delhi, as reported by ANI. 

LPG Cylinder rates in different cities 

In Mumbai, the LPG cylinder of 14.2 kg will cost Rs. 999.50. 

In Kolkata, the LPG cylinder for domestic use has become costlier reaching Rs. 1,026. 

In Chennai, the domestic cooking gas cylinder will cost Rs. 1,015.50. 

In Lucknow, the LPG cylinder will be selling at Rs. 1,037.50.

Price hike for Commercial Cylinders 

On May 1, the oil companies announced to raise the rates of 19kg commercial cooking gas cylinders by Rs. 102.50. The latest price of the commercial cooking gas cylinder has reached Rs. 2,355.50 after the recent hike. 

At that time, the price for a 5 kg LPG cylinder was also hiked to Rs. 665. 

Fuel getting costlier amid inflation 

The rates for LPG cylinders differ from area to area due to the taxes levied on them. The rates are revised by the national oil companies at the beginning of every month based on the average international rate for benchmark fuel and foreign exchange in the preceding month. 

The fuel rates were hiked after the results of assembly elections in five states. The rates for petrol and diesel were hiked continuously in the month of March and April.
