Coca-Cola's history with Cocaine as an ingredient
In the initial phase, when the soft-drink Coca-Cola was launched, it actually used cocaine as a key ingredient. In the 1890s, cocaine was used as a medicinal drug in the US due to its medicinal properties. Even the brand name Coca-Cola is derived from the main ingredient caffeine which is sourced from the kola nut and another ingredient as cocaine which is derived from the coca leaf.
The drink was launched in the market as a brain tonic and an intellectual beverage and it was advertised as a patent medicine that cures headaches, upset stomach, and fatigue. However, by the year 1929, the ingredient was totally removed from the drink during the Prohibition Era in the US.
