The prices of petrol and diesel remain stable for the 21st day straight, as notified by state-owned Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). People have got relief from the stable oil prices for the last several days. On 24 November 2021, there has been no increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj and Meerut. Petrol is being sold at Rs 95.26 per litre and diesel at Rs 86.80 per litre. In Lucknow today, in the month of October, the price of oil per litre had increased by 24 times.

This reduction has come due to the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government. Along with this, the state governments in many states have also reduced the prices at their level. For example, petrol diesel has become cheaper by Rs 12-12 in UP.

Petrol and diesel will not be included in GST

Many important decisions were taken in the meeting of the Goods and Services Tax Council. Addressing the media, the Finance Minister put an end to the speculation about bringing petrol and diesel under the purview of GST. He said, "This is not the right time to consider bringing petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST. For this, many issues related to revenue will have to be considered. These were not discussed during the meeting."
