Auto driver won a sum of Rs 25 crores from Onam lottery event

Recently while the state was celebrating its majestic Mahabali festival, fate brought a blessing of happiness through financial abundance in the life of a common auto driver named Anoop who belongs to Sreevaraham in Thiravanathapuram. Anoop had participated in a lucky dram event organized by Bhagavathy Agency who had announced a bumper cash prize of Rs 25 crores for the lottery winner on the occasion of Onam.
This year witnessed the highest prize money in Onam lottery event. Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal has done the lucky draw in the presence of transport minister Antony Raju and Vattiyoorkavu MLA V K Prasanth in this Sunday afternoon. It was found that Ticket number TJ-750605 which was bought by Anoop had won the first prize. K. Anoop will receive a sum of 15 crores 75 lakhs rupees after tax deduction.
Before becoming an auto driver Anoop had worked as a chef in a hotel. He had planned to go to Malaysia and work as a chef so he applied for a loan in the bank and his loan was sanctioned. Anoop brought the ticket from his sister who was working with the lottery agency. As Anoop suffered short of money he took out money from his son’s piggy bank to buy the ticket. Anoop had also won a prize of Rs 5000 in a lottery earlier.
An amount of Rs 5 crores was recived by the second winner. Apart from this 10 other lucky winners received a sum of Rs 1 crore each. According to sources each lottery ticket was sold at a price Rs 500 and more than 67 lakh tickets were sold this year. As the lottery event is one of the important sources of income for the government of Kerela, the agent names Thankaraj who was assigned the task of selling the tickets would also receive a good commission.
