World Consumer Rights Day: Celebrate the Day and Know your Rights

When do we celebrate the World Consumer Rights Day? 

Every year, the World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on 15 March. This day raises the voices of consumers to ask for the rights of all consumers to be respected and protected. 

Theme of the Day for 2022 

The World Consumer Rights day is celebrated with a specific theme every year. As per the Consumers International Organization, the theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2022 is "Fair Digital Finance". The theme addresses the present issues faced by consumers in digital finance. 

“The Vision sets out questions for decision makers from a consumer rights perspective to build a digital financial marketplace that is inclusive, safe, data protected and private, and sustainable for everyone,” said the Consumers International Organization.

History of the Day 

Inspired by former US president John F Kennedy the World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated to spread awareness about consumer rights. He spoke about the issues of consumers while addressing at the US Congress on 15 March, 1962. 

On April 9, 1985 the United Nations adopted broad rules for consumers protection. However, the first celebration of World Consumer Rights day took place in 1983. 

Why do we celebrate the World Consumer Rights Day? 

Since the time its origin, World Consumer Rights Day has been about the acknowledgment of privileges of the purchasers and following up on it. As shoppers, we as a whole should deliberately make strides that influence us in a positive light.
