Women Football: Indian Team Falls to Chile, Despite improved Display of game

In their second game of the Women's International Football Tournament, India lost 0-3 to Chile.

India showed great character despitein their second game of the Women's International Football Tournament on Monday at the Amazon Arena in Manaus, Brazil.


Chile took the lead in the first half through striker Maria Urrutia, however, India's dreams of a comeback were dashed with two quick goals late in the game.


M Lintoingambi Devi replaced Aditi Chauhan between the sticks, and and Dangmei Grace in India's starting lineup.


Manisha Kalyan, the game's top scorer versus Brazil, had the game's first chance in the sixth minute when she met an in-swinging corner but directed it straight at goalie Endler. 


Chile soon gained command of the match, scoring their first goal in the 12th minute. Maria Rojas delivered a low cross from the right flank for Javiera Toro, who attempted an incredible back-heel goal but was denied by Linthoi.


Chile took the lead a minute later when Rojas, who had been a continuous thorn in India's side in the first half, advanced down the right flank and found Urrutia, who scored with a first-time finish.


The rest of the half went by without incident, as Linthoi and her defense used the good organization to keep the Chilean attack away. India began the second half with a heavy push and looked much more dangerous on the break after getting a sense of their Chilean opponents.


India broke forward on the counter-attack in the 66th minute through Manisha, who found substitute Dangmei Grace, whose shot was stopped by Endler.
