While the Indian music industry is buzzing with talented artists, it is also open to welcome new talents. This rockstar girl is winning hearts of many with her music and she even had a music video released recently. It is called Wake Me Up and it has been shot on a phone during the pandemic. In an exclusive interview, Subhi not just speaks about this song, but also about her desire f working in Bollywood. Read on…

What was your idea behind the song Wake Me Up?

This song was created suddenly, I never thought about it. I shot this song in LA with my producer in March when the Corona Virus had already begun spreading. Initially, I was skeptical, but I knew that if I didn’t go then, I wouldn’t be able to travel for some months. We planned the trip with extreme precautions, I had actually gone to the studio to shoot for another song, but my producer refused to shoot that song. He said let's do some other song that you like, today, that is how this song was made.

This song has been shot on phone, how was the experience? What were the challenges you faced?

We knew that the Corona Virus has spread everywhere, in such a case, we were wondering how do we shoot this song because we want to make a music video out of this. Then we thought that we will have to shoot outdoors only because shoot indoor is risky. If we would have taken somebody else for the song, then there would be things associated with it, then we decided that we all have an iPhone, so why not shoot the song with it. The song was shot with a crew of only 3 people.

How is Wake Me Up different from the rest of your songs?

I feel out of all my songs, this one is the darkest. It is very relevant because most of my songs are related to me or my life, but this song is such that not just me, but everyone else are also going through all that shown in the song.

Your song Chand Ka Chilka was quite appreciated in the international songwriting competition 2019, how do you feel about it?

I had never sent my songs to any songwriting competition, but last year someone told me about it and asked me to try for it. So, I sent my song, I was surprised to see them get sitings in thousands and when this song won the title I felt very good.

Why didn’t you try to make a career in the Bollywood music industry? What is the difference between both the music industries?

When I was in India, I tried in the Indian music industry for some time, I met some big producers and directors too. However, due to some reasons, but interest started changing. But yes, I am still very keen to sing for Bollywood movies, in fact, it is my dream to work with singer Amit Trivedi and director Vishal Bhardwaj. I wish this happens someday. The only difference between Hollywood and the Indian music industry is creativity.
