Every month, the Chaturthi Tithi falling after Purnima or full moon during Krishna Paksha is observed as Sankashti Chaturthi. This month, the Sankashti Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 24. The Ashwin, Krishna Paksha Chaturthi Tithi is known as Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi. 

Date and Auspicious Time

This year, the Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi will be observed on September 24. The Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 08:29 am on September 24 and will continue till 10:36 am on September 25. The moon will rise at 08:20 pm on Sankashti day.

Puja Vidhi

Devotees start the day with a holy bath and worshipping the Lord Ganesha. People observe a day-long fast and consume only fruits and milk. The consumption of rice, wheat and lentils is avoided, but satvik food like sabudana khichadi, potato and peanuts canbe consumed during the fast. Devotees break their fast after moon sighting. 

Significance 

Sankashti Chaturthi is significant for Lord Ganesha devotees. Sankashti stands for deliverance during troubled times. Lord Ganesha is worshipped as he has been symbolized to be the remover of all obstacles. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that observing this fast takes away all the obstacles from one’s life.
