Tokyo Olympics: Lovlina Borgohain loses Semi-final against Turkey, wins Bronze

Lovlina Borgohain has lost the semi-final match against Turkey but she has won Bronze.

It is the 13th day of the Tokyo Olympics. Indian women boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) has unfortunately lost her semi-final match 0-5 to world champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey. However, Lovlina had already confirmed the medal. With a loss in the semi-finals, she has been awarded with the bronze medal. Earlier, Indian wrestlers performed well. Ravi Kumar and Deepak Poonia have made it to the semi-finals. 

By defeating Nien-Chin Chen of Taiwan, the former world champion she entered the semis. It was when the 23-year-old boxing champion had already assured India's first boxing medal at the ongoing Olympic Games.

She is the two-time world champion bronze medallist and the first female boxer from Assam to qualify for the Games. Hailing from Bormukhiya village in Assam’s Golaghat district, Lovlina got a bye in the first round. She defeated Germany boxing champion Nadine Apetz by 3-2, who is 12 years elder to her, to reach the quarterfinals. 

Born on October 2, 1997, Lovlina got inspired from her elder twin sisters Licha and Lima. Both sisters have pursued their passion in kickboxing at the national level. Lovlina fought against Muay Thai at the age of 13 and switched to boxing later. 

The renowned Indian boxing coach Padum Boro has spotted her during a Sports Authority of India (SAI) trial at her primary school, Barpathar Girls High School.

Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra reaches Finals

India's star player javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra has made a brilliant score in his first attempt, he threw the javelin covering a distance of 86.65 meters. With this distance he qualified for the finals. A throw of 83.50 meters is required to enter the final directly. Now Neeraj will show his strength in the final match of the javelin throw which is to be held on August 7.
