Mirabai Chanu, 26-year-old weightlifter has lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg). After Karnam Malleswari (2000 Sydney Olympics) she became the second weightlifter to win a medal at the Games. China’s Hou Zhihui has won the gold medal with an effort of 210kg and the bronze by Indonesia’s Aisah Windy Cantika with an effort of 194kg.
"I am very happy, I have been dreaming of this for the past five years. I am very proud of myself right now. I did try for gold but even silver is a great achievement for me. I am very happy to win the first medal for India at these Games. I don't just belong to Manipur, I belong to the whole country", said Mirabai Chanu after winning silver medal.

Mirabai was born on August 8, 1994 in Imphal, Manipur. Her major achievements are Silver in Tokyo Olympics (49kg), Bronze in 2020 Tashkent Asian Championships (49 kg), Gold in 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (48 kg), Gold in 2017 Anaheim World Championships (48 kg), Silver in 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games (48 kg). She has been conferred the Khel Ratna for the year 2018. Technically, she is the 6th Indian individual Olympic silver medallist (after Norman Pritchard, Rajyvardhan Rathore, Sushil Kumar, Vijay Kumar and PV Sindhu).
