Tokyo Olympics 2020: India qualifies for Quarter-Finals in Archery

India's archers Deepika and Praveen made their way to quarter-finals in Tokyo Olympics.

In the beginning of a mixed period in archery, there was an atmosphere of doubt about India's progress. This happened due to the performance of all the 4 Indian archers in the individual rounds on the previous day. However, both Deepika and Praveen came close to their best in their game and comeback on the second day of archery. The first set was very difficult in which India lost by 1 point with a set score of 36-35.

It was a tie at 18-18 but the Chinese could not take advantage of Taipei's lapse in concentration. The second set proved to be the beginning of India's good performance. Deepika Kumari scored with two 10's and Praveen Jadhav with 10 and 8. It was a tie set score of 38 and the team of Chang Chih-chun and Lin Chia-en also scored 38.

It was up to India to win the third set otherwise it would be all over for them. In a dream timeline of events, Praveen and Deepika scored 2-10 runs to end the score in favor of India with 40 points.

The tie breaker was brought in the form of the fourth set and both the countries were tied at 3-3. Chinese Taipei scored 19 runs in its first round. It seemed India was slipping away as he scored 17 points in his first two shots. But as luck would have it,

Chinese Taipei hit an 8 and a 9 to take their round score to 36. The odds were still stacked, with two 10's required from Dipika and Praveen. It was an unprecedented end as the duo made two consecutive center shots to take their score to 37 and take the lead in the quarter-finals.
