Survey says, Covid affected quality of life of elderly in Delhi

As per the survey by Agewell Foundation, Covid has affected the life quality of elderly in Delhi.

The study has found that the quality of life of the elderly is highly impacted in Delhi. Almost 75% respondents said that a paralysed healthcare system has affected their lives. 

The study was conducted by the volunteers of Agewell Foundation, an NGO working for the welfare and empowerment of the elderly. In July, the volunteers have contacted 1,500 elderly people living in Delhi NCR. It has been found that Covid-19 has impacted the lives of 90% respondents. 

1,370 respondents shared that they don't feel optimistic about the future and they are uncertain about it. 73.6% respondentssaid that their lives are affected by a paralysed healthcare system. 78.7% repondents said that their life is affected due torestricted social and public life. 53.2% elder citizens shared that derailed public transport system has immpacted their lives. 

Life of 429 respondents is impacted due to increased unemployment or joblessness. 191 people claimed that their critical medical checkups are terminated or postponed due to Covid-19. Moreover, 233 elders shared that they were unable to get proper treatment and regular medicines timely. 

Himanshu Rath, chairman, Agewell Foundation said, “Unprecedented Covid-19 has created a void among older people. Each one of them has invested their lifetime for a better tomorrow and now suddenly it seems that there is no tomorrow. Since there is no respite till now, the elderly need constant assurance of support, help and assistance in case of need."
