Students from Delhi’s two top universities- Ambedkar University and Delhi University have faced the similar situation that occurred in JNU that is electricity to the campus has been cut off, this step has been taken in order to stop the students from screening the controversial BBC series on PM Modi.

A screening was supposed to take place outside DU’s Arts Faculty and now large gatherings have been banned and electricity supply has also been banned in Ambedkar University to prevent another screening of the documentary. A group of students had also protested and raised slogans at both the universities and students were detained by the police. Many students gathered at the Delhi University’s Arts faculty to protest against the section 144 that has been issued for stopping of the screening, a huge crowd had clashed with the police and security guards and had raised slogans of “go back Delhi Police”.

24 students had been detained earlier for trying to screen the documentary in DU as stated by a senior police official. The Delhi University administrations had banned public screenings but if any student watches it in their phones it’s their discretion, like in JNU, the students in DU started watching the documentary in their phones after a link was shared. Delhi University Proctor Rajni Abbi stated that she has written to the Delhi Police on the matter and they will take necessary action.

India: The Modi Question documentary was banned by the Centre using emergency orders under Section 16 of the IT rules, 2021. The orders was given to social media intermediaries but not to any individual hence if any individual screen they cannot be penalized.
