Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa announces International Retirement

Sri Lanka Cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa has announced retirement from International cricket.

On Wednesday, Sri Lanka's batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has announced his retirement from International cricket with immediate effect. In a letter to the SLC, he wrote, "I have very carefully considered my position as a player, husband and am taking this decision looking forward to fatherhood and associated familial obligations." 

Bhanuka Rajapaksa's Career 

Rajapaksa made his debut in July 2021 his ODI career has lasted less than six months. He tendered his letter of resignation to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which posted the development on its website. Rajapaksa represented Sri Lanka in five ODIs and 18 T20Is. He has scored a total of 409 runs across formats including three fifties. He was part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad and finished as the third-highest run-scorer for his team with 155 runs from eight matches.

As per the reports by Cricket Addictor, "the sources of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have revealed that Bhanuka Rajapaksa in his retirement letter has stated that he has decided to quit international cricket because he can’t play cricket with the latest fitness standards introduced by the cricket board especially the skinfold levels."
