Apart from the many bad things 2020 had in store, one sad story was of all those newcomers in Bollywood whose big dreams to see themselves on the 70mm came down crashing. Well, honestly it was nobody’s fault, with the lockdown being imposed due to the widespread of the coronavirus, a lot of facilities were shut down worldwide. And in this Bollywood suffered a lot in terms of business, since theaters were also shut down. Some were lucky to have the release of their film before the lockdown, while some had to settle for the next best option.
And with big screen’s shrinking into small ones on our phones and in the OTT space, some newcomers in Bollywood also had to taper their dreams of watching themselves on the big screen. Here are the newcomers who managed to stand out in 2020…
Riva Kishan
Actor Ravi Kishan’s daughter Riva Kishan’s impending debut was finally supposed to happen in 2020. Luckily, Riva’s debut film Sab Kushal Mangal released much before the lockdown, but sadly soon after her first step into Bollywood she had to sit at home for months.
Priyank Sharma
Actress Padmini Kolhapure’s son and Shraddha Kapoor’s cousin Priyank Sharma also couldn’t make his mark in Bollywood. While he made his debut opposite Riva in Sab Kushal Mangal, after that he too also had to back off from the limelight due to the pandemic and this must have affected their debuts in some way.
Alaya F
The vivacious Alaya F who is actress Pooja Bedi’s daughter surely stood out for her performance in Jawaani Jaaneman, but soon after her debut film, the girl had to hit a low patch and stay at home rather than celebrating her film debut.
Parth Samthaan
Popular TV actor Parth Samthaan who we all saw as Anurag Basu in Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 was also supposed to have his dreamy Bollywood launch with the maverick Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor was going to be seen in Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawad but the film got pushed, so did Parth’s debut.
Sanjana Sanghi
Actress Sanjana Sanghi also couldn’t manage to have a gala debut, but she still stayed in the news, because her first film happened to be actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film. Sanjana’s film Dil Bechara which was the Indian version of Fault In Our Stars released on Hotstar and while the film was watched widely it wasn’t for Sanjana, but for late Sushant.
Aadil Khan
The guy who impressed everyone with his performance in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara (based on the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits) was lauded by many. Despite playing a central role and delivering a strong performance, Aadil’s new stardom became short-lived due to the pandemic.
Sadia Khateeb
Sadia who was Aadil’s co-star in Shikara was also praised by the critics for her performance. And while her debut looked promising, 2020 and its pandemic proved to be a big detractor for her upward ascent.
