Could you imagine cooking without oil? No, because oil is an inseparable part of Indian recipes. This ingredient which adds up the taste of food can prove to be a threat for you. It is common to use reuse the same oil again and again which left over after deep frying to save time, energy and money because most of us are still unaware of the damage it can bring to our health.
According to health experts unrefrigerated, reused oil becomes anaerobic and causes growth of Clostridium botulinum, which can cause food poisoning. Doctors describe that cooking oil can increase free radicals in the body causing inflammation which can lead to heart diseases, ailments like diabetes, reduced immunity and infections.
Safety guidelines issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India permits reusing the oil for a maximum of three times to avoid the formation of trans-fat. Mukesh Mishra, Vice President, Sales, and Marketing, Adani Wilmar Ltd. told Times Now that waste oils keep circulating into the system causing harm.
High smoke point of reused oil can contaminate or burn the food. Using the same oil again and again also increases the chances of acidity, heartburn, and digestion issues in the stomach. Reused oil also increases cholesterol levels due to the increase of Trans fatty acids when heated in high temperature. According to doctors unhealthy Trans-fat causes cardiovascular diseases.
Anything that is carcinogenic can be cancerous . According to research heating oil several times produces aldehydes that are a kind of toxic substance that can aid the formation of cancerous cells in the body. As per heath experts bacteria feed on the food particles that are left in the stored oil which was used for frying. This can cause several infections.
