RCB to Officially Announce Captain's Name on March 12

IPL's team Royal Challengers Bangalore is likely to officially announce the name of team's captain on March 12.

Royal Challengers Bangalore is all set to announce the name of Faf du Plessis as the new captain for IPL 2022. RCB has called a press conference on 12 March at 4 pm. This post has been left vacant with Virat Kohli stepping down as captain after IPL 2021. Glenn Maxwell was the favorite for the replacement but RCB have decided to go with du Plessis.

While RCB was set to announce the name on March 8, they have now decided to delay the announcement. In a tweet, the franchise said that they will celebrate the team's fourteen years at Museum Cross Road in Church Street on March 12.

In the first three matches of IPL 2022, Glenn Maxwell will be unavailable which means that Faf du Plessis will be getting the chance. The former South Africa captain has vast experience of leading the team in all three formats including the World Cup. At Chennai Super Kings, du Plessis was a guaranteed starter and would seal his place in RCB's playing XI as an opener.

What is said by former RCB captain Daniel Vettori?

However, former RCB captain Daniel Vettori said Virat Kohli made the right decision by moving on from the role. "No (Kohli will not return as captain). I think it is as simple as that. I don't think that ever works, let alone in franchise cricket or international cricket. Once the captain is moved on, the right thing is for him to move on," Vettori told ESPNCricinfo.

Further, he added, "I think they will look at Kohli, Maxwell and Du Plessis as the leadership group and even Dinesh Karthik. I think Faf will step in for Maxwell. But if they win the first three games, maybe they will continue on with him."
