The Charanjit Singh Channi government of Punjab on Sunday decided to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel. The new prices will be applicable from tonight. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that we have decided to reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 10 and Rs 5 per litre respectively. The new prices will be effective from tonight itself.
Significantly, a day before Diwali, the central government had decided to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per litre respectively. After this, 22 states and union territories of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka have reduced VAT on both these products. After the reduction in excise duty and VAT, the price of petrol came down to below Rs 100 per litre in 20 states of the country.
Karnataka, Puducherry, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman Diu, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh and Meghalaya cut VAT.
