Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s homage to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya in “Man ki baat”

25th September is the birth anniversary of former Jan Sangh leader Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. This Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the late Jan Sangh leader and talked about him while addressing the public in his monthly show “Man ki baat”.

This Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the late Jan Sangh leader and talked about him while addressing the public in his monthly show “Man ki baat”. The Prime Minister said in the memory of Mr.Upadhyaya "Today the 25th of September is celebrated as the birthday of Deendayal Upadhyay ji, the brilliant humanist, thinker and great son of the country." He also paid homage to the late leader by saying "I pay homage to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Ji on his Jayanti. His emphasis on Antyodaya and serving the poor keeps inspiring us. He is also widely remembered as an exceptional thinker and intellectual”.

Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya took birth in 1916. He was a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary, thinker and one of the founding members of Jan Sangh. He was titled as the President of Jan Sangh in 1967.According to the Prime Minister "Deendayal Ji’s ‘Ekatma Manavdarshan’ is such an idea, which in the realm of ideology gives freedom from conflict and prejudice". 

Along with praising the qualities of this great man the Prime Minister also talked about his experiences. He further said "The biggest feature of Deendayal Ji’s thoughts is that in his lifetime, he had seen the great upheavals of the world. He had become a witness to the struggles of ideologies. That is why, he put forward an idea of `Ekatma Manavdarshan` and `Antyodaya` before the country which was completely Indian".

Last year, PM Modi dedicated the Ayushman Bharat scheme which is the largest insurance scheme to the Antyodaya philosophy of Upadhyay. Antyodaya, means uplifting of the weakest section of the society and Sarvodaya, is a broader term, which means development of all.
