A Narcotics cell team on Saturday had gone to Raju Park in Neb Sarai at 2.30 pm for deportation proceedings of 3 Nigerian nationals who had overstayed after the expiration of their visas.

At that time a mob of over 100 people of African origin attacked the police and obstructed their work in order to free the Nigerians whose visas had expired. Chandan Chowdhary, DCP (South) said, “the team was trying to bring them to the police station but suddenly about 100 Africans gathered there and obstructed the police team, in the meantime, two of those detained managed to escape one was successfully apprehended later.”

Around 6.30 pm, a team from the Neb Sarai police station and the Narcotics squad went to that area but were again obstructed by 150-200 people but detained 4 Nigerians, including a woman. Videos were shot by onlookers who stated that the police formed a human barricade with a thick rope and the scene became a little violent as well as seen in the videos.

Despite the mob helping the detained to escape the police was successful in arresting them but 2 of them escaped as well but later the police arrested one of them, 22yr old Philip.

No action has been taken against the mob yet and according to the police they are looking into the matter and will register a case.
