History & Significance of the Day 

Their thinking about women and girls is still narrow. In such a situation, to change the thinking of the people of the society towards the girl child, National Girl Child Day is organized every year at the national level , which started in the year 2008 . Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is remembered as a woman. On this day Indira Gandhi took over as the Prime Minister for the first time , hence this day is celebrated as National Girl Child Day. On this day many important schemes are also implemented at the national level to encourage the girl child and to create awareness about their rights.
