History & Significance of the Day

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is remembered as a woman. On this day Indira Gandhi took over as the Prime Minister for the first time , hence this day is celebrated as National Girl Child Day. On this day many important schemes are also implemented at the national level to encourage the girl child and to create awareness about their rights.
