National Award-winning Actor, Surekha Sikri, Passes Away at 75

Surekha Sikri, National award winning actor passed away at 75 due to cardiac arrest.

National award winning actor, Surekha Sikri has died at the age of 75 of a cardiac arrest. She was famous for films such as Badhaai Ho and TV shows like Balika Vadhu. She had suffered a brain stroke in 2020 and a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018.

In a statement shared with the media, her agent Vivek Sidhwani said "the actor had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke". “She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram," he added.

Sikri had suffered a brain stroke in September last year and was discharged after a few days. She has received three National Film Awards. She was best known for her performances in “Tamas", “Mammo", “Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro", “Zubeidaa" and daily soap “Balika Vadhu". 

She has received a widespread praise for her role of a grandmother in Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer “Badhaai Ho" (2018). She has won the National Film Award for the Best Supporting Actress in the film. Sikri was last seen in Netflix’s “Ghost Stories", directed by Zoya Akhtar.
