Mumbai Local Trains lifts Covid-19 restrictions, allow unvaccinated travelers

In view of declining cases of Covid-19, the Mumbai Railways allows all travelers to commute regardless of their vaccination status.

In Maharashtra, the government has announced the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. On Sunday, Mumbai Railways announced to delete the vaccination linked system from its ticket booking app with immediate effect. The move has been welcomed by all the passengers traveling on Mumbai Railways.

Statement by the Mumbai Railways

A railway spokesperson said, "As per the directives from the state government on the lifting of restrictions, the railways have lifted all curbs and opened ticketing for all at counters and on the app for both railways in Mumbai. This means that commuters won't now need to link their vaccine certificates to the ticketing app. All such instructions have now been withdrawn", quoted as saying by Mid Day.

Keeping in view the declining daily fresh cases of Covid-19, the Maharashtra government has lifted all the Covid related restrictions from April 1.  As per reports, the Railways also stated to open the facilities which were closed in view of the pandemic as a precautionary measure, including authorized entry-exit gates, lifts, escalators, foot overbridges, and commercial ticket counters, and ATVM machines.

Effect of restrictions on the common man

The move has been announced after the Bombay High Court said in February that it is illegal to allow only fully vaccinated travelers to enter Railways as it has affected the fundamental rights of citizens.

In January, the government's lawyer Anil Anturkar said, "This is a reasonable restriction imposed on the citizen's fundamental right and such prohibition has been imposed in the larger public interest, for their own benefit", quoted as saying by News 18.

The restrictions have caused inconvenience to the common man and now they will be able to commute easily without any restriction.
