Mauni Amavasya falls on Krishna Paksha of Magh month. This year devotees will be celebrating it on February 1 with full devotion. Devotees take a dip in nearby rivers like Ganga.
Significance of the Festival
According to religious beliefs, bathing in the Ganges on this auspicious occasion removes all sins, removes sufferings and attains salvation. All the gods and goddesses have blessings on those who bathe in the Ganges. On the day of Mauni Amavasya, there is a tradition of observing silence, worshiping Lord Vishnu and Peepal tree.
Auspicious Timings
The time of sunrise on Tuesday will be 6:34 hours and the time of Amavasya date will be 11:16 hours. This time Mauni Amavasya is falling on two days, Monday and Tuesday. Monday has been made for performing Shradh etc. and Tuesday for bathing and charity.
It is said that the bath done in Mauni Amavasya is as fruitful as the Ashwamedha Yagya. By donating sesame and jaggery, the harm caused by Saturn and Sun ends. The Peepal tree is seen as the abode of the deities.
