While cases of inhumanity and brutality are increasing day by day, unfortunately
another woman became a prey to such cruelty. This time a 23 year old woman
became the victim of gang rape in Chattishgarh.
According to the officials the woman had gone to attend the Mavlipadar fair
with her cousin on March 4. A group of man allegedly chased the woman while
threatening her relatives. Then they forcibly leaded her to a nearby pond where
they brutally gang raped her. The heinous crime was conducted in the Baster
district of Chattishgarh that a history of gang rapes.
Inspector general of police, Bastar range, Sunderaj P. “The incident took
place on the night of March 4, when a married tribal woman went to Mavlipadar
village ‘mela madai’ (local fair). Late in the evening while she was having
food in the outskirts of the village with her cousin, five men from a nearby
village chased away her cousin and sexually assaulted the lady. Later two more
accused also joined the gang,”
According to the officials the woman was gang raped by seven people
including two minors. Assistant Superintendent of Police Nivedita Paul informed
that
As further investigation was carried on all the accused were arrested as
the IG said “During the course of investigation, the remaining accused was
apprehended. All seven accused have been arrested and sent to judicial remand.
All the accused and the survivor are from tribal community”. He further stated
how the members of the mela committee arrived to the rescue of the woman and a
few accused were handed over to police on the spot.
