Indian players had a good day at the Madrid Spain Masters on Wednesday. PV Sindhu, Akarshi Kashyap, Kidambi Srikanth won their respective matches and advance through the tournament.
Two time Olympic medalist and former world champion PV Sindhu defeated Switzerland’s Jenjira Stadelmann in 21-10 21-4 whereas world championship silver medallist Srikanth defeated Sitthikom Thammassin of Thailand in 21-11 25-27 23-21 in his round of 32 match. Along with them the indian doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag played against Japanese pair Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei, 3 days after clinching the Swiss Open title, in their round of 32 match but the Indian pair withdrew from the tournament sighting a knee injury to Satwiksairaj who was seen drawing the officials attention towards his left knee, it happened during the break of the first game and the Indians were trailing 9-11.
Meanwhile, Aakarshi Kashyap had the biggest win of her career as she won for the first time over a top-30 opponent on the BWF tour. She defeated sixth seed Michelle Li of Canada in 12-21 21-15 21-18 in her first round match. Ashmita Chaliha beat Frenchwoman Leonice Huet 21-12 22-20.
The women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost their first round contest against Japan’s Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto.
B Sai Praneeth beat Jan Louda by 21-16 18-21 21-12. Priyanshu Rajawat won his men’s singles match against Victor Svendsen 18-21 21-16 21-11. Kiran George beat compatriot Mithun Manjunath in 21-16 21-14.
