Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds associated with a depression moving over Sri Lanka are forecast across parts of southern India through at least. The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of southern Tamil Nadu State, isolated heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala, and light-to-moderate rainfall over much of Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.
The IMD has issued orange heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong wind warnings over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as well as yellow heavy rainfall warnings for Kerala and yellow thunderstorm warnings for Kerala and Lakshadweep. Heavy downpours could trigger flooding in low-lying and riverine areas and landslides on unstable slopes. Schools and colleges in parts of south-eastern Tamil Nadu have been closed due to the adverse weather.
The pressure over the Southwest Bay in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a depression. This pressure has passed to Sri Lanka test between triangle Mali in the early hours of 2 February. It is expected to recurve over Comorin as it continues to move west-south-westwards over South Sri Lanka. In such a situation, by the morning of February 3, it will reach the Gulf of Mannar adjacent to the west coast of Sri Lanka.
Due to which heavy rain warning has been issued in Pondicherry including Coastal Tamil Nadu including Kerala. A holiday has been declared in Tamil Nadu today. Along with this, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the southwest coast. There is a possibility of normal rain in North-West India. However, snowfall will continue in the mountains while forecast of heavy rain has been issued in the southern state.
