Hyderabad witnesses winter chill; IMD issues yellow alert

A rare phenomenon known as dryline showers was observed in parts of Hyderabad as a result of the transition from warm moist conditions to cold dry weather. Weather experts predict that Hyderabad would experience cold weather beginning January 6, 2023.

Winter returned to Hyderabad on Monday as residents of the city woke up to another chilly morning. As the winter chill is likely to continue for the next few days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued yellow alert.

For the second consecutive day, Telangana recorded the lowest minimum temperature of just over 4 degree Celsius. On Monday morning, Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded 4.6 degree Celsius, followed by Sirpur in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district with 4.8 degree Celsius.

The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) recorded the lowest minimum temperature under 10 degree Celsius in 31 of 33 districts in the state Monday.

The Telangana Weatherman said, "Almost 50 percent of India is covered by dense fog currently even many parts of Telangana mainly North, Central parts and also outskirts of Hyderabad city under dense fog conditions. Beginning January 6, 2023, cold waves will intensify the cold weather across Telangana. We will have a drastic drop in night temperatures from January 7, 2023 due to dry northerly cold winds".

For the state’s other districts such as Adilabad, Nirmal, Komaram Bheem, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Medak, the weather department has issued orange alert.

As per Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the maximum temperate in the GHMC area is likely to be in the range of 29-31 degrees Celsius whereas, in the entire Telangana, it will be in the range of 30-33 degrees Celsius.
